Luke Dethridge and I recently hosted a free workshop at Immaculate Conception School in Dunbar.
We created wind sculptures out of recycled yogurt containers which are still zap strapped to poles around the playground.
This weekend we will be be hosting wind sculpture workshops at Science World in Vancouver Sat June 18th and Sun June 19th from 11-2pm.

Secret project revealed

So the project I previously “Shhhhhhh” ‘ed about is actually ARTUNG! A rift off a couple other projects I was invovled in targeting illegal and legal advertisements posted by Pattison/CBS Outdoor/Astral Media. Apparently my artwork is in the Gazette today!
Very cool!
Too bad it will only be appreciated for a couple days because I really liked that piece, sad to let it go where it will be inevitably ripped down a a couple days….

Today was exciting because not only did the project get an abundance of media coverage, but I also got to speak at Hastings Elementary today to teach and inspire a project the grade 7 students are working on. I was contacted by a a friend of a friend of a friend…to go and do a presentation about grafitti and street art activism. Apparently, the grade 7 class watched the Banksy movie in school and were inspired to work on a project representing their views and visions of the DTES in an artwork. What a cool teacher Miss Vis is!

A hoy Hoy!

Molested GoddessFun Stuff has been going on!

I just uploaded my camera for the first time in like a year so I have a few photos, so I thought I’d post em, lucky y’all.
Luke Dethridge and I will be hosting some workshops at Science World to advertise ourselves and Makerfaire as well as some workshops at local schools. Maker faire is a super cool event if you haven’t already heard of it. Here is how it is described according to the website:
“Vancouver Mini Maker Faire is a two-day celebration of making and creating. It’s an all-ages family festival promoting the ethos of DIY on a large scale. “Maker” culture grew out of the DIY movement and is based on the principle that ordinary people, given access to knowledge, skills and technology, can and will create extraordinary things. A maker can be any person or group who invents, designs, and/or builds objects or information systems with the goal of learning, teaching, inspiring or improving the state of the world.”
For out workshops/exhibition at the fair we will be teaching kids how to re purpose junk as art materials and will be building wind driven kinetic sculptures out of junk and recycled objects. So far I have found some cool materials.

Also, as I’m sure you’ve noticed I’m a little obsessed with brains so I made a Brain bike helmet.

Past Stuff/Upcoming Stuff!

Sometimes it might seem as though I have disappeared off the face of the planet, but I assure you this is simply not true. I spend much of my time in Linzee-land which is a land of blinking computer screens, hunching, slouching, typing, clicking, often followed by torturess back pain, a very hot shower followed by an abundance of yoga.

What have I been up to since I last posted?

Some very cool exciting things are happening/have happened in the past few months!

*I am just finishing my Artist in Residence Internship @ the Vancouver Park Board-I just completed legends for all 3 murals that are NOW INSTALLED at Sunset Community Centre, Sunset Rink(@ Main and e 51st) & Moberly Arts & Culture Centre(Fraser & e 61st)Finally..it’s been a long time coming!

*I am almost-but-not-quite-yet a yoga instructor(I just need to do my test, but I have completed the training!)

*I have booked a secret art show to show off the projects my little Artsy Farts have created at the Bright Red Crayon lunch hour art club at ICS (shhh!)

*Myself and Luke Dethridge will be holding recycled wind sculpture workshops in the Dunbar Community then exhibiting @ MakerFaire Vancouver. Stay tuned for more info on that..they will likely happen late May 2011.

Not sure how many of you know about the Artist Residency I’m involved in with Pat Beaton through the Vancouver Park Board. Its purpose is to support artists working with communities on issues of joint interest or concern. This Program complements these established relationships by providing the opportunity for an artist to work for an extended period developing innovative strategies for involving diverse members of a neighbourhood in joint creative practices.
The intention and desire is that there be a lasting impact or ‘legacy’ from the projects, whether it involves new understandings of creative processes, a stronger community bond or an artwork which remains in the community. Check out the progress our community mural which will be displayed at Moberly Arts and Culture Center, Sunset Community Center and Sunset Ice Rink.

Laughter Yoga-what??

Yes. It’s true. In addition to being an art teacher & child entertainer, I am now a Certified Laughter Yoga Instructor.

How cool is that?

The question I’m sure most of you are asking is :

“What is Laughter Yoga?”

Laughter Yoga is not the kind of yoga you would typically see at a yoga studio. It doesn’t use postures or stretching, but it’s practice DOES result in the same benefits as traditional forms of yoga such as relaxation, a strengthened immune system, stress relief as well as a sense of enlightenment and balance.

How Does it work?

Laughter yoga is a series of playful almost theatrical exercises where participants practice exaggerated fake laughter in order to induce real laughter. The exercises can be done sitting or standing depending on the needs of a group and it is an excellent way to break down social barriers relax and have fun. I can tell you honestly, after each day of training and laughing so hard, I had never slept so well!

I just noticed I’ll have to fix that last post!

ANYWAYS…the lovely Kate Mosley and i are working on a kids book inspired by a real life experience of working with nintendo addicted children. I’ve always wanted to make a kids book, we figured we’d start on a simple straightforward story for our first one. It’s been about 7 years since I’ve actually sat down to draw something for a project(other than just sketches and doodles) so I’d appreciate feedback. I am more of a cartoonist and these are VERY rough sketches…I will be re doing many of the sketches from different perspectives in the next few weeks and I will post them here.
